Events Description

In addition to a brilliant music performance, guests will be treated to a unique insight into how these exceptional instruments are developed, from design stage through to manufacture.

The event provides a superb opportunity for players of all levels to experience the Custom Clarinets in the hands of one of the world’s finest exponents. There’ll also be an opportunity to meet Yamaha specialists, try the custom clarinet range first hand, receive complimentary gifts, and be entered into a competition to receive a private master class with David.

David Campbell has performed regularly with the London Sinfonietta, London Mozart Players, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra and more recently has forged a highly successful career based on solo repertoire and chamber music.

David is also hugely committed to assisting the next generation of young clarinettists and is currently ‘Head of Woodwind’ at Westminster School and a visiting Lecturer at London’s City University; these teaching roles are complemented by a busy schedule of regular events at schools throughout the UK.

After some 35 years, David changed to Yamaha CSG III clarinets in October 2016 and this UK tour is the latest example of Yamaha and David collaborating. Together, they now undertake regular workshops, presentations, master classes, and concerts across the country.

Acclaimed composer and musician, Juwon Ogungbe, presents Ignatius Inspires, a concert and series of school music workshops inspired by the music and life of Ignatius Sancho (1729-1780).

Born on a slave ship, Ignatius Sancho was among the first Africans to live free in Britain and is the first black Briton known to have voted in a Parliamentary election. He was a musician, composer, writer and man of refinement who became an icon for the anti-slavery cause.

Through music and dance workshops held in local Primary schools with the participation of choreographer, Caroline Muraldo, Haringey young people have developed a new performance piece incorporating Sancho’s own compositions, blended with their own inspirations and creativity, which will have its premiere at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.

The entire creative process is being documented by young artists from Diversity Matters and archived online by Griots Arts.

Suitable for all ages.
