Events Description

The Tileyard Summer Music Camp is a 10-day intensive and highly practical songwriting and music industry camp, held at Tileyard Studios London, for commercial songwriters, producers and entertainment entrepreneurs.

At the camp you will be taught by and collaborate with professional songwriters, producers, artists, and industry entrepreneurs based at Tileyard Studios.

Tileyard Studios is the largest professional music community in Europe home to 82 recording studios and 120 music and entertainment businesses including producer songwriters Martyn Ware, Jon Kelly, Paul Whalley, Michael Angelo, Sean Hargreaves, Drew Masters, Goetz Botzenhardt, Nikolaj Bjerre, Emma Stakes, Marli Harwood, Notting Hill Music, Maverick, Marathon Artists, PLATOON and many more.


Week one courses include:

  • Music industry landscape, dynamics and stakeholders
  • Inside the hybrid label, publisher, management company
  • Copyright, royalties, collection and the future of rights
  • Contracts for recording, publishing and management deals
  • The development of contemporary popular music in c20 / c21
  • DAW production skills 1: protools and logic
  • Songwriting and arrangement fundamentals
  • Lyric and creative writing workshop
  • Vocal development and technique
  • A two day songwriting camp
  • Friday playback session and party

All of our music staff are carefully selected not only for their outstanding musicianship but also for their enthusiasm and talent for working with and bringing out the best in young people.

Members of music staff at the Ingenium Academy include orchestral conductors and instrumental teachers from the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra, amongst many other prestigious institutions. Our vocal and choral leaders include names from the Royal College of Music, NYCGB (National Youth Choir of Great Britain) and award-winning group, the Swingle Singers, and our piano and saxophone programmes are led by internationally renowned soloists who are also accomplished teachers at some of the UK's top conservatoires including the Royal College of Music, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Birmingham Conservatoire.

 

The Ingenium Academy offers students between the ages of 14 and 18 a unique opportunity: a specialised musical education of the highest calibre combined with an immersive cultural experience. This includes tuition from world-renowned musicians, performances in top British venues and the opportunity to meet like-minded friends from all over the world within our environment of creative excellence.

Programmes

Vocal Programme
Our diverse vocal programme is for 14-18-year-olds who love to sing, are keen to develop their choral technique, improve their ensemble singing and explore a diverse range of vocal styles.

Orchestral Programme
Our instrumental programme is for 14-18-year-old musicians who will form orchestral and chamber ensembles, taking on challenging programmes under the direction of some of the UK's top conductors.

Piano Programme
Our piano programme is for 14-18-year-old pianists who wish to develop and improve all aspects of their playing as well gain ensemble playing experience.

Saxophone Programme
Our saxophone programme is for 14-18-year-old saxophonists who wish to develop and improve all aspects of their playing, expand their repertoire and gain ensemble playing experience.

Conducting Programme
They are offering a unique opportunity for young conductors to gain hands-on experience and expert tuition in conducting. Intermediate and Advanced programmes available.

Haydn’s The Creation with Jane Glover; Imogen Cooper, Harriet Walter and Felicity Lott; Brazilian music; Oh, What a Lovely War and West Side Story.

Jane Glover conducts the Dartington Choir in Haydn’s magisterial masterpiece The Creation, narrated by the wonderful Harriet Walter. The Dartington Festival Orchestra begins its two-week residency with the Conductors Programme; the Advanced Opera Course, Mozart’s beautiful and witty Marriage of Figaro, is coached by the much-loved soprano Felicity Lott, visiting Dartington for the very first time.

It’s great week for pianists, with masterclasses from the great Imogen Cooper, piano concerto classes with Joanna MacGregor, and tuition in four-hand and two-piano repertoire with Florian Mitrea. Alfred Brendel brings his wit and wisdom, and Adrian Brendel directs the strings faculty. There’s be a packed programme of chamber music tuition all week.

Sarah Gabriel and Richard Williams celebrate Leonard Bernstein’s centenary directing all-comers with Scenes from West Side Story, as well as Lerner and Loewe’s Kiss Me Kate; and the Advanced Music Theatre Course marks the end of the First World War with Joan Littlewood’s searing Oh, What a Lovely War. There’ll also be classes in Brazilian music, dance and song.

ICMP’s songwriting summer school is for creative songwriters to learn, create and connect with like-minded songwriters, through song creation and performance and inspirational teaching in our fantastic London facilities. Book now and start looking forward to creating great music this summer!

The next step for aspiring songwriters, this course introduces new concepts and theories to expand your vocabulary and repertoire.

Through a series of focused workshops delivered by the institute’s expert faculty of UK songwriters you will look at creative techniques that could take your songs a step further.

Each day you will work with a band, getting your songs ready for a special performance on the Friday.

By completing this course, you will:

  • Develop your songs
  • Be able to perform competently as an individual or part of a band
  • Have an understanding of song style, structure and content
  • Have an overview of the music industry and how to market your music
  • Have an understanding of vocal technique

Students must be 16 years of age or older to join the course.  Regardless of ability level you will get a lot out of our summer program, but a passion for songwriting is essential! You will start working with a band from day one.
